Another negligence case filed against MDM Hospital

JODHPUR: Two days after a police case was registered against superintendent of MDM Hospital and HoD (neurology) Sunil Garg for alleged negligence leading to death of a 10-year-old boy on Saturday morning, one more case was registered against the hospital administration on Monday after a referred patient died in the morning.

Relatives of Rajendra Singh, who was referred from Pali to Jodhpur in a serious condition after a road accident on Wednesday sat on a dharna at MDM Hospital with his body and refused to allow post-mortem until a case of negligence was registered against the hospital administration.

In the afternoon, the police finally registered a case against the hospital administration after which the relatives agreed for the post-mortem.

“We have handed over the body of Rajendra Singh to his family members and registered a case of culpable homicide against the hospital administration,” said SHO (Shastri Nagar) Anand Singh.

It may be recalled that the family members of Rajendra Singh had a brawl with the resident doctors on Wednesday, which had led to a strike of resident doctors. The doctors had called off their strike only on Sunday after the police arrested two accused – Lokendra Singh and Ajeet Singh. But after five days of admission in the hospital, Rajendra Singh finally succumbed on Monday morning. “His condition was very critical. He was kept on the life-support system since admission,” said a doctor.

Before this, a 10-year-old boy, Rama, had also died in the middle of the resident doctors’ strike. His family members had also refused to go for post-mortem until a case of medical negligence was registered against the HoD of the neurology department, Sunil Garg. Garg, however, claimed that there was no negligence in any of the two cases. “While Rama was successfully operated and was being attended well post-surgery, Singh also was given adequate care,” he said.
